Former Italian international Christian Vieri has reportedly agreed to join Brazilian side Botafogo.
The former Lazio, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and Juventus man has long been linked with a move to Brazilian football, but a move to South America looked unlikely following an unsuccessful trial with Flamengo.
Vieri confirmed his complete retirement from the game just last week, with the 36-year-old said to be looking forward to concentrating on his many business interests having failed to seal a deal in Brazil and also with English Premier League team Blackburn Rovers.
But Brazilian media giants Globo today confirmed that an agreement had been reached with Botafogo and that it was just a case of putting pen to paper.
Agent Frank Assuncao confirmed that the deal was “done,” and “We have already completed the preliminaries, [the deal is] only lacking the final details.”
It’s been a difficult season for Botafogo, with just seven games remaining, they currently sit just five places of the bottom and are said to be hoping the high profile signing of Vieri will galvanise the squad.
