River Plate have made their intentions of returning to the Primera Division at the first time of asking clear by signing Alejandro 'Chori' Dominguez from Valencia.
Dominguez, who played for River from 2001 to 2004, joins the relegated giants on a season-long loan after an unsuccessful spell with los Che. After the transfer was completed, 'Chori' said that he will strive to help River return to the top flight.
"With all respect, a club like River cannot permit themselves to be in the second division, because it has history and no one could have imagined that this would happen," Dominguez told the club's official website.
"We have to face up to this situation - we want to return the club to the place it deserves to be."
Having signed Dominugez, coach Matias Almeyda will turn to recruiting at least another two players to bolster his squad ahead of what promises to be a challenging campaign ahead.
