Two superb goals from Neymar and Borges saw Santos beat Botafogo 2-0 to prevent the Rio de Janeiro club moving to the top of the Brazilian Campeonato.
A win would have sent Pantera a point clear at the summit with eight games remaining in the season. However, they fell behind after just 15 minutes when Neymar ran from midfield, turned a couple of defenders inside and out and then poked a shot into the far corner past goalkeeper Jefferson.
Maicosuel had a great chance to draw Botafogo level but he was unable to turn the ball in at the far post from Sebastian Abreu's header. Borges then made it 2-0 when he latched on to a bounced ball, held off the defender and smashed in a half-volley via the inside of the post. The superb strike was celebrated by a dance between Borges and Neymar and Santos held on to their lead until the break.
Neymar came close to a third goal when he lashed a shot past the post in the second-half but it was not to matter as Botafogo could not find a way back into the match. The loss leaves Botafogo in third place in the table, while Santos are in 11th.
