New Corinthians signing Douglas has revealed that he hopes to wear the number 10 jersey, currently occupied by troubled striker Adriano.
Douglas, 29, has returned to Corinthians following spells with Al Wasl and Gremio, and hopes to make his second debut in the Paulista clash with Sao Paulo this weekend.
Adriano, on the other hand, was reprimanded by the club for missing training last month and has been told to stay at a hotel at the team's training complex in a bid to keep his weight down.
And the former Roma striker is set to face another blow as Douglas bids to make the number 10 shirt his.
"I would like to wear number 10," he told Lancenet. "It is a shirt I know a lot because I have always worn it. Adriano is 10 here so I am not sure what will happen but I would be very grateful if I got it."
Corinthians' marketing team may well have to bow down to Douglas' wishes as 90 per cent of fans in a recent poll said they would like him to wear the 10 top.
The attacking midfielder has signed a three-year deal with the club and will be looking to maintain his unbeaten record against Sao Paulo while playing for Corinthians on Saturday.
"I have always done well against Sao Paulo," he said. "I hope to stay, I will be available if the documentation is done in time."
