Chile booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Copa America as Group C winners after beating Pacifico rivals Peru 1-0.
Both sides went into the match knowing they were already assured of progressing to the next round but it was Chile who earned the bragging rights thanks to an injury-time own goal.
Defender Andre Carrillo was the villian for Peru as he deflected a corner into his own net, although coach Sergio Markarian blamed the referee for the defeat after he sent off both Chile's Jean Beausejour and Peru's Giancarlo Carmona for a flare-up.
"Carmona did not deserve to be sent off — though Beausejour did. And that changed the game. This is the same referee who deprived Colombia of a legitimate win against Argentina," he blasted, in reference to the penalty he denied Radamel Falcao.
Both players apologised after the match, with Beausejour, who appeared to start the incident, saying: "I am sorry. There is no justification for what I did. It hurts a lot to miss the next match - I made an inexplicable mistake."
Carmona added: "I feel responsible for the defeat. I don't know if the (red card) decision was justified and it is not for me to decide but the defeat is very sad as we were doing things very well."
Chile and Peru will now go on to play the runners-up and winners of Group B respectively.
